Nintendo Wii Sales Top 3 Million in Japan
News just in is that the Nintendo has now sold 3 million Wii Consoles in Japan. This is fantastic news for Nintendo as the Wii is now outselling the Sony Playstation 3 by three to one.
Nintendo’s strong demand for the Wii has been put down to its very competitive price and the motion sensor remote control system. Although not as technically powerful as the PS3 or Microsoft Xbox 360, the Wii brings real time action to gaming with the likes of the Wii Sports game where you can swing the remote to hit a tennis ball, or games like Zelda where you can swing the remote like a sword.
In Japan, like the rest of the world, the Wii retails at roughly half the price of the Playstation 3 and therefore appeals to a wider market. The weaker sales of the PS3 have also been linked to the low amount of quality launch titles, with many of the better games not being released until late 2007.
The Xbox 360 on the other hand, which is very in popular in the USA and Europe has so far struggled to make a big impact in a Japanese market that has traditionally been dominated by Sony and Nintendo.
Overall, this is very good news for Nintendo Wii owners as the future looks very bright indeed.
